Anton Bernolák, born on 3 October 1762 in Slanica in the Orava region was a Slovak Roman Catholic priest and linguist, a representative of the Slovak National Uprising. He codified the first Slovak language standard and, although it was not accepted as a national standard , it played an important role in the formation of modern Slovak nation.
