Silver 200-crown coin Foundation of Sokol movement standard

Silver 200-crown coin commemorating the 150^th anniversary of the foundation of the Sokol movement (i.e. a voluntary organisation of the Czechoslovak people encouraging harmonious mental and physical development of individuals) is the second in a set of five 200-crown coins issued by the Czech National Bank in 2012.

The design of the coin came from a country-wide anonymous contest organized by the Czech National Bank. The winning design was created by Jaroslav Bejvl.

Coins for CNB are struck by Czech Mint of 0.925 fine silver in standard and proof qualities differing in the surface finish and the edge. As opposed to standard quality where the edge of the coin is reeded, proof coins have highly polished field and matted relief, while the edge is smooth. The diameter of the coin is 31 mm, it weighs 13 g and is 2.35 mm thick.

On the obverse side the author placed a composition comprising the motif of the Sokol sign and the Czech lion, complemented in the background with a stylized picture of falcon training. Around the rim of the coin there is the inscription „ČESKÁ REPUBLIKA” (“Czech Republic”), and the nominal value of the coin “200 Kč”.

The reverse side of the coin features the motif of the bird of prey from the Sokol flag, a stylized illustration of training of falcons, legend in circumscription “ZALOŽENÍ SOKOLA” (Foundation of the Sokol movement) and the years “1862 – 2012”.

Each coin comes complete with a catalogue card featuring description of the coin and its three-dimensional depiction.
