Gold ducat Baby and Christening 2011 proof

Gold baby and christening ducat tops the series of medals marking the most significant moments in life.

With this ducat, Czech Mint continues in the old tradition of St. Wenceslas’ ducats that were given in the past to babies in cradles by grandparents and godfathers. Even in poor families, a baby received gold coins – to prevent them from poverty The motifs on christening ducats are regularly changed.
On the obverse side of the 2011 issue, its author, academic sculptor, Michal Vitanovský used the motif of a newborn baby. The baby is lying on his/her back stretching out the arms as a symbol of openness and trust with which the baby comes to the world. The well-structured composition in a round format is complemented with a diagonally placed pillow outlined by border beads.

The reverse side depicts three territorial signs from the state emblem. In heraldic succession it is the Czech lion, the Moravian eagle and the Silesian eagle. Heraldic figures are interconnected by round border beads which also link the motifs on the obverse and reverse sides of the medal.
